Margaret Serna


Margaret Serna, Executive Director Scottsdale Unified School District Title I Schools
Ms. Serna is a graduate of Arizona State University (B.A.) and Northern Arizona University (M.A.).  A former bilingual teacher, Principal, District Office Director, WestEd, adjunct professor for NAU and SCC. She is currently the Executive Director of SUSD Title I Services. During her tenure as Principal of Tavan Elementary School, Ms. Serna was named an ADE Turnaround Principal, an ADE Wallace Foundation Circle of Honor Recipient, and the LULAC Hispanic School Administer of the Year.  A point of pride for Ms. Serna is her twenty-one year leadership at Tavan Elementary School where Ms. Serna and her staff took Tavan Elementary School from a failing Title I School to an ADE ‘A’ Label School honored with the prestigious Arizona Education Foundation A+ School for the past eight years.  Ms. Serna is an advocate for Equity, Title I Schools, English Language Development (ELD) Curriculum and Instruction, Response to Intervention (RTI) and Family/Community building in support of all young scholars. Ms. Serna is celebrating her fortieth year as an educator in Arizona.
