Matt Clifford


Dr. Matthew Clifford is a principal researcher at the American Institutes for Research (AIR) whose research and evaluation interests focus on the improvement of school leadership as a means of improving instructional quality and student achievement. He currently leads multiple research studies of professional development and evaluation initiatives to improve principal quality. Dr. Clifford also consults with school districts and states to design principal support systems through the National Comprehensive Center on Teacher Quality and the Center on Educator Compensation Reform. Clifford has been studying and working with school principals as a researcher for the past 15 years, and is a lifelong educator, having previously worked as a teacher, curriculum director, and professional developer.
