My role with the Migrant Education Program is helping Arizona schools identify children whose education has been disrupted by the migratory nature of their family as they move to find work in the production and processing of agricultural products. Before joining the Migrant Education Program in 2019, I taught ESL at several universities and non-profits in the Kansas City area. While earning my MA in TESL, I coordinated a federally funded project to increase the cultural responsiveness of k-12 teaching and learning in KC public schools, which involved developing and delivering professional development with the Kansas City Public School district’s instructional coaches and supporting the use of technology in the classroom and family engagement. For close to a decade, I also served as a comptroller for a safety net clinic that served a transient population in downtown KC.
