Tara Bartlett
Tara Bartlett is a doctoral student in the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College (MLFTC) at Arizona State University. Tara’s research focuses on youth public participation, community development, and civics efficacy. Her previous fourteen years were spent teaching a hybrid of English Language Arts and Social Studies in Title I schools. In the classroom, Tara implemented civic programs such as We the People, Girls Tribe, Participatory Budgeting, and Project Citizen. Additionally, Tara has counseled over fifty Arizona schools in civic learning best practices as committee co-chair on the newly rebranded Civic Education and Community Engagement and was integral in the rewriting and adoption of new Arizona History and Social Science State Standards. Tara has also been a presenter and mentor for the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, facilitating youth civic engagement workshops in partnership with the U.S. State Department and IREX. Currently, Tara is working with iCivics, ASU, Tufts University, and Harvard on the creation of a nation-wide “civic roadmap” for K-12 educators.
